  • Stereos and speakers
  • Cords, keyboards and accessories

Why electronics cannot go in the trash

In Illinois it is illegal to throw TVs, computers, monitors, printers and a list of other electronics in the trash. State law bans them from landfills, and Illinois EPA's current list, effective January 1, 2026, also covers home audio such as speakers, stereos and amps. The ban applies to businesses as well as households. These devices have to be recycled instead.

If you would rather drop electronics off yourself, Cook County's CHaRM recycling center at 15800 State St. in South Holland takes TVs, monitors and other electronics from residential customers, and many towns run their own collection, listed on our town pages where we could confirm it.

What customers say

★★★★★

“Found Southside Strong while searching online for a local junk removal service and my experience with them was awesome! They were a pleasure to work with and very quick to get back to me both times that I’ve hired them for their services. I highly recommend anyone looking for junk removal to contact Nicole. Steven and his team were very proffesional and showed up and got the jobs done no questions asked. Thank you!”

★★★★★

“Steve and his partner arrived on time. Steve took the time to disassemble a large leather reclining sofa with a metal rail, as well as a large leather chair. It made for an easier way to get it out of the house without worrying about maneuvering a tight space.”

TV and electronics removal questions

Will you take an old tube TV?

Yes. Old tube TVs are heavy and awkward, and they are exactly what people get stuck with. We carry them out.

Can I put a TV out with the garbage?

Not in Illinois. Covered electronics like TVs and monitors are banned from landfills. See the rule above, or check your town's electronics drop-off on our service area pages.
